JSE 150 is an asynchronous exploration of Japanese society and culture. Throughout the course, you will be asked to think critically about the material, consider different perspectives, and develop your own interpretations.
Because the course is asynchronous, there are no regularly scheduled live classes. You will work through the material independently, but I am available for individual or group meetings, and additional summary or support sessions can be arranged as needed. Please monitor Moodle regularly for readings, activities, announcements, and updates.
An important part of this course is your own thinking, interpretation, and analysis. While AI is now built into many of the tools we use, students should not rely on AI-generated content for their coursework, as this is not in keeping with the spirit or learning goals of the course. In accordance with University policies, I also reserve the right to contact a student to discuss submitted work if there is a need for clarification.
Finally, there are currently students on a waiting list for this course. If you decide early in the semester that you do not intend to continue, I would appreciate it if you could let me know as soon as possible, in addition to following the University’s official withdrawal procedures. This may allow another student to join the course.
I look forward to working with you throughout the semester.
