Theatre
is found in many historical periods, cultures and places. In this course, we
will explore and investigate some large questions concerning the theatre: What
is theatre and what are the boundaries between what is theatre and non-theatre?
What stories are events are told in the theatre? How do theatre conventions and
genre shape our experience of the theatre? Who are the people who specialize in
theatre? How do they define their lives and how are they treated within the
society? Who attends the theatre and what is the connection and contract
between the actors and the audience?
