This course is part of the Theory and Composition section of the Music Program. It is designed for students from all musical backgrounds who have completed MUS130, 135, and 230 and wish to enhance their theoretical skills through a deeper understanding of advanced concepts. For the Winter 2026 semester, we will emphasize frequent reference to the guitar neck and ensure that students can write effectively for the guitar.

While continuing our foundational studies in Baroque music theory and four-part writing, we will gradually explore new modes of expression that introduce more color and innovation into our musical approach.

Learning will occur through both the explanation and application of harmonic concepts, as well as the analysis of works that illustrate the vast creative possibilities within the world of music.

Some exercises will require composition based on well-defined schemes, enabling students to not only apply theoretical elements but also reflect on their creative implications.
