Welcome to DRA 281: Playwrighting! In this introductory workshop style class, students will learn and practice a variety of playwrighting exercises and techniques. This class will offer three units exploring the basic elements of writing a play: nouns (person, place, or thing) in action. Students will develop playwrighting skills in developing characters, creating monologues, writing in action, keeping time, constructing worlds, delivering dialogue, molding metaphors, and building one act play structure. The collective will also support each other’s projects by providing respectful, encouraging, and useful dramaturgical feedback. At the end of the semester, students will have the chance to submit their one act plays for consideration for the Fall 2026 New Plays Festival.
