Welcome to Theatre Histories After 1800! In this open and friendly class, you will be introduced to the deeply impactful theatre histories from the 19th century to today. As a class, we will read, analyze, and critically engage with some of the most important plays, playwrights, and global play creation styles from the last 225 years. Theatre tells us a great deal about who we are as humans as well as members of specific communities. In this class, you will be encouraged to engage with questions such as: What's the relationship between the audience and the stage? How do theatre creators impact the world around them? What does theatre tell us about community, identity, structures of power, and who we are today? You'll also have the opportunity to lift these texts off the page by rehearsing and performing scenes together at the end of the semester.
