This course gives students an introduction to law and to the Canadian legal system through a practical and pragmatic approach.
In addition to the fundamentals of basic corporate and contract law, students will be introduced to a number of legal issues affecting contemporary business including: intellectual property, labour law, discriminatory practices and consumer protection.
In accordance with the principles of constructivist learning theory, students are required to research and gather the relevant course material through publicly available publications during the semester on their own and learn how to filter information in order to answer questions and complete assignments before each lecture.
Students should come prepared and be ready to answer questions, present arguments and be able to present and adequately support their position regarding various issues addressed in class.
By the end of the course, the students will have acquired sound legal basis and will be able to identify, anticipate and circumvent legal issues as they arise in the business world and in their future professional endeavours.
