This course offers an introduction to contemporary feminist
theories, from first-wave to fourth-wave feminism (shifting toward
non-binary and trans identities), including feminist literary
histories, the economic and social conditions of women writers or their subjects, the connections
between gender and genre, the distinguishing characteristics of feminist and
women’s reading and writing, and feminist debates about subjectivity. Several
literary texts will be introduced in order to ground the theory in material
realities as exemplified by literary representation.
