Welcome to the Advanced Seminar on Colonization and Decolonization! This course will explore the concepts of "colonization" and "decolonization" from three distinctive perspectives:
a. From a historical perspective.
b. From a theoretical and methodological perspective.
c. From a practical perspective.
Especial focus related to these processes will be given to the Americas, but whenever relevant we will also explore how both "colonization" and "decolonization" took and take shape in Africa, Asia, Oceania, and even Europe.
Colonialism and imperialism are considered in relation to settler societies and global power structure. This course examines theories of decolonization and liberation in the context of cultural and economic empires.
