FIH 102 Survey of Western Art II: Renaissance to Today
This course is an introductory survey of artistic production from the Early Renaissance to today. In lectures, readings, and class discussions, we will explore major monuments of the Western tradition, concentrating on painting, sculpture and architecture in Europe and North America. We will situate these monuments within their cultural contexts and consider their social functions. We will also learn about the principles and methods of art history. In addition to becoming familiar with this rich and varied history and examining key artistic monuments, students will develop skill in the description and analysis of works of art.
