What makes a movie, TV show, musical artist, or advertisement “popular”? Why do certain works and their creators influence entire generations and revolutionize genres? How does popular culture reflect the cultural zeitgeist, including politics, sex, gender, race, consumerism, and community? These and other questions will guide our discussions this semester about popular culture and its critical impact.
